Ink on bristol (30X 39 inches). An alternative title could be "nine panes of thought" or something similar?

This was a collaboration with myself. Why? Because it is easier for me to draw little things at night on a board while watching a movie with the family or whatever, I thought I would do a series of small pictures that would ultimately fit together as one larger piece. This is very similar to some collaborations that are being done on this site, except that I am doing it with myself.

During the most recent update (Feb19, 2008) I added panels 7-9. I decided that I liked them better with some white separating the individual panes or panels, than all mashed together. This better represents the idea that they were done separately (except at the edges), but still shows their strange relationship to one another.

This drawing (or series of drawings) took a while to do, and although I didn't keep up with the time hour by hour, I do know that I have at least 220 hours in it. Crazy, I know...

Check out the individual panes below.

You do very interesting work. I've done artwork in a very similiar method before, also. Sometimes I like to graph off a drawing or painting then draw or paint biomorphic imagery in every other square. Then I look at it at various angles before working on the remaining squares.

This is one of the best ink pieces I have ever seen, and if I can scrounge up the money I want to buy a print of this. It is just so intricately beautiful, thank you for making it so I can see it

Great job, Joe! It has a bit of an Heironymous Bosch feel, but with your own unique surrealism. I can see this as wall of individual (ceramic, maybe?) tiles...

interestingly enough, when I framed this picture, I mounted each of the nine drawingson black foam core, to give them a tiled feeling. In fact, under glass, some people actually thought they were on tiles, including a ceramics professor. He wondered how I got that detail on tiles! So, yeah, I think this would translate wonderfully to a wall of tiles. I was going to do quite a few more panels for this project, but I had to get it done for a show last year.

If you are interested, there are currently a couple of ways to apply amazingly fine detail onto already-glazed ceramic tiles. For pure black and white, there is a laser-etching process, while full-color reproduction involves a dye-sublimation procedure.

thanks, I just entered this picture in another competition and it was accepted. However, the final judging will be based on viewers votes-it is called the People's Choice Competition (at the Meridian Museum of Art in MS). We will see how that goes!

The Nanogrammatic Garden
For :iconneogothic-jam:

The sweet succulent swamp bears fruit of silence
of nine equal squares avoiding pestilence
Soft vegetal syrup saurotamatically supple and yet sublime
weeds screaming orgasmic overflows magmatic rhymes
Whyile the spoons sing the earlobes of the corn
my heart doth swing to the left ventricle of this sojourn
Oh what convelescent sychronic apetite this musky worm
The evanescence of the tadpoles autistic horn;

the winged lion disguised as a pair of leafy troll
waiting fopr the praying mantis, Benedict's Hoar,
Puffy mushrooms pooping placental vestiges design,
sacrificing floral empblems within the darkness pyre,
not to mention those syphillic intestinal globules form,
masturbating the preacher's angry storm,
besides the point of no return;

But oh the pleasant glowworm doth glazed the cake of dung,
the flies that the venus flytrap succumb beneath the cresent ivy tounge,
Will they again be born around the fungal strap of magellanic thorn,
The vineyard chlorophyll of the cyanobacteria's silk the cardina's porn,
and as the time for joyous bachannale approaches,
The bulls head will bear some kidney roses,
and when the last leaf from this marble cactus at last fall,
the nine panes of thought in my head I shall always recall!!!
