This painting won first place in the drawing/painting division of the juried competition at the Cotton District Arts Festival held 18 April 2009 in Starkville, MS. This festival has grown and now is considered to be one of the major festivals of its type in the Southeast. The show was juried by Sanders McNeal from Jackson, MS.

I entered this painting in the international online Energy Art Salon Competition 2009 and was a primary finalist. As a result, this painting will be included in the first annual Energy Art Salon Exhibition at Murphy Hill Gallery located on the third floor of the historic Sears & Roebuck Building in Chicago, Illinois 60624, USA ([link] ). The exhibition will run from Jan. 15 - Feb. 25, 2010.

Thanks, I really like doing these color things then messing with them with ink. I can't seem to get away from wanting to go in a do stuff with ink.

Yeah, when I saw the teeth, I could imagine them circling the image here and there. But, these drawings are totally unplanned and the teeth just grew there. What could I do? Ahhh, the teeth...

Thanks! Yeah, pretty busy lately! All that framing and getting ready for shows takes time. I have one up right now actually-30 framed drawings at the Meridian Museum of Art. The opening was last week.

Your compositions are so mind blowing and incredible. I get carpal tunnel syndrome just staring at them. Fantastic detailing, superb forms, and great sense of chaos. I also love the way you incorporated colors in the piece. A unique, intricate visual experience.

Well I went back and looked again. It is difficult to tell on a computer screen.... but from where I sit, it has a wonderful "glow" that is very effective, draws one in for a closer look. With your work, I think that is an especially attractive feature of the color in this piece. No, not too much!

Wow! I'm very impressed, Joe!

At first glance it looked to me like you had taken a photo of a bag of weed. Closer inspection (and I recommend everyone look at it in full view to truly appreciate all the work you put into it) reveals an amazing array of faces, figures and disturbing shapes. Very nicely done!
