Inquisitive Fish by JoeMacGown Inquisitive Fish by JoeMacGown
Acrylic paint and ink on primed birch plywood, 16 X 16 inches, 2012.

Started this last year just goofing around. Came back to it a few weeks ago and started putting some detail down.

Quite awesome...again, I like the effect of texture from the birch. Especially with all your colors and details.

this is one of those where the original definitely looks better than the digital image. A good bit of texture is present for sure. Yeah, I am liking working on the birch, for many reasons. Its actually very smooth. The texture is more from the primer, which I brush on and don't sand.

Well I love it...I think I'm gonna go get me some birch and play around with it. You have inspired me my friend, lol. I saw another artist who was drawing on birch with graphite and then burning patterns into it with a soldering iron, it had a nice/cool effect.

What type of primer do you use on it?

I just buy a gallon of white primer from Lowes, water washable type. I don't remember the brand. In fact, I buy pieces of the birch there. In our area they sell various pieces already cut. Very smooth surface. I like it.

Well thanks for all the info Joe! On a side note, I am still working on my corpse to send to you. This one is taking me awhile because I have really, really tried to coagulate our style but it is worth the wait in my opinion. I am working on 3 other corpses too, for some reason I keep jumping mindsets like each is dependent on my mood. Like I am scattered in my thoughts...but this one is (in my opinion) is going to be great. I hope you don't mind. I feel like a slacker but in the same token, I'm just slow too, lol. :D Thanks again Joe!! You rock. :headbang:
