yes indeed, have you ever found any of their larvae? Every once in a while I come across a few in some rich, moist leaf litter/humus. They are so big, you just want to deep fry them and eat them or something.

haha...i've found a few and can't really say i've ever had the desire to fry them up or anything...lol i used to work at a camp in southern missouri and taught nature to inner city kids........finding some of these huge babies was so great so i could show the kids later on.......

Hah, well, I do kill a few for scientific study, but I try not to go overboard. That picture was done for a t-shirt for someone working with boll weevil eradication a few years ago. It was really popular..
