I draw weird stuff whenever I have time. I see weirdness everywhere all the time. I don' t feel inspired or feel the need to be inspired, I just let things flow and have fun with it.

Joe A. MacGown works as a Scientific Illustrator/Research Technician at Mississippi Entomological Museum. When not working as an entomologist, he spends much of his time creating fantastical surreal art. His works range from energetic surreal paintings to highly detailed mixed media and pen drawings. MacGown's surreal work has been featured in numerous local and regional exhibitions as well as in international group shows in Dallas, TX; Chicago, IL; Memphis, TN; San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; Colombia; Toronto, Canada; Great Britain; the Philippines; Moscow & St. Petersburg, Russia; Belgrade, Serbia; the Netherlands; various venues in France; Dresden, Germany; Venice, Italy; Portugal; and other regions. I had two pieces of art, "Organic Cosmic Lock" http://neogothic-jam.deviantart.com/art/Organic-Cosmic-Lock-121651373  and "Ossiforestation" http://neogothic-jam.deviantart.com/art/Ossiforestation-118439316 , accepted in this years Cotton District Arts Festival Juried Art Competition held in Starkville, MS on 17 April 2010. After the judging was over, I somehow managed to win Best of Show with "Organic Cosmic Lock" and first place in the painting/drawing division with "Ossiforestation"!
